Home of the Nariel Valley Folk Festival, the scenic Nariel Valley is located south of Colac Colac on the Benambra-Corryong Road and features rolling hills, running creeks and beautiful farmland. The valley is home to high quality farming enterprises, including beef cattle and dairy farms.
The valley is best known for the 'Nariel Valley Folk Festival' which is held annually over the Christmas-New Year period. It is a celebration of traditional folk music, song and dance.
The event has been held since the early sixties, making it one of the longest running folk festivals in Australia. The artists are not paid, and the event is a not-for-profit community event.
At the event you can experience musical performances around the campfire and attend the blackboard concert on New Years’ Day.
The Festival is a great family-friendly festival for those wanting something a little more laid-back and relaxed to enjoy over the festive period. Camping is available leading up to, during and after the festival. Fees Apply. Musicians love attending for the many impromptu jam sessions during the festival.
The week-long festival is held at the Nariel Recreation Reserve, located in an ideal position beside the Nariel Creek only 12 kilometres south-west of Corryong. The reserve is also a great place to camp at other times throughout the year and offers picturesque camp sites right on the creek, with toilet facilities nearby.
Further along the Benambra-Corryong Road, 46 kilometres south of Corryong, there is another fantastic camp spot known as Stacey's Bridge Reserve. This quiet creek side camping area makes the most of the beautiful scenery and serenity of the Nariel Valley.
A level camp ground, Stacey’s Bridge Reserve is great for those wanting to pitch a tent and offers plenty of shade during the warmer weather. Wildlife is common at this reserve, where the local fauna takes advantage of the cool and shady reserve during the summer months. The creek is popular for swimming and fishing with locals and tourists alike. Sections of the Nariel Creek offer some great trout fishing, making it popular for fly-fishing.
