And for lake lovers, there’s also Khancoban Pondage, a 3 km lake with views of the Snowy Mountains. Check the respective state fishing regulations and seasons before you go. Hike
Hike, bushwalk, wander, or stroll, the Upper Murray features a wide range of walking tracks, nature trails, and lookouts just waiting to be discovered. Many of the region’s tracks are suitable for families and boast spectacular views and an abundance of flora and fauna. Start off with an easy stroll to the Playles Lookout in Corryong, where you get sweeping views across the valley to surrounding mountains. Step things up with a 10 km return walk to the top of Pine Mountain, a gigantic rock monolith one and a half times as large as Uluru.
4WD
If you’re an avid 4WD enthusiast you’ll love the Upper Murray, which offers some of the most diverse and unforgettable landscapes in Australia. Discover stunning campsites accessible only by 4WD, enjoy the Geehi Huts loop with its two river crossings, or traverse the very tricky Davies Plain Drive – not for the inexperienced. You can also check out the Burrowa-Pine Mountain National Park, which stretches between Walwa Creek in the northwest and Cudgewa Creek in the southeast, the area is a four-wheel driver’s playground with extensive tracks leading to rugged mountain peaks and rocky outcrops.
