Located along the Omeo Highway is the quaint town of Mitta Mitta. Established in 1852 during the gold rush, today the Mitta Mitta area is home to 171 people. Although small, there is lots on offer in Mitta Mitta.
Mitta Mitta has its own general store, caravan park and various other accommodation options. The local pub is a true country pub with open fire places, a dining room and outdoor area overlooking the Snowy Creek. Visit the pub for a hearty meal or stay the night in the newly renovated accommodation on site.
There are plenty of walking tracks in the area which take in the beautiful local flora and fauna. The heritage listed Pioneer Mine is situated just outside of Mitta Mitta and is a popular spot to visit. It is known as one of the best examples of hydraulic sluicing in Australia and you can explore the base of the mine, fossick through the stone and rubble heaps and learn a bit about the history of Mitta Mitta.
The Mitta Mitta River offers great fishing for trout and many great locations for swimming, canoeing, white-water rafting and kayaking.
