There’s plenty waiting for you in the valley
Pristine rivers and abundant fishing spots, bush culture and mining heritage, mountain bike trails and restorative bush walks through alpine national park.
White-Water Rafting
The big draw when it comes to water sports, the Mitta River is known as one of the country’s top spots for white-water rafting. No less than 60 rapids offer a range of difficulty and duration, allowing thrill seekers to explore granite gorges and majestic Alpine National Park over 19 km of rapid river descent.
Fishing at Dartmouth Dam
Bait your hook to catch rainbow trout, brown trout, and Macquarie perch. Two of Australia’s most significant fishing competitions take place at Dartmouth Dam – the highest dam in Australia, and Victoria’s largest body of water. Why not enter the Dartmouth Cup Fishing Classic in June or the Women’s Fishing Classic in November?
Bushwalking
Long or short, strenuous or stroll, there are several bushwalking options in and around the Mitta Valley for experienced hikers and sightseers alike. From the 1 km Pioneer Mine Walk to the 8 km Mount Welcome Hike, to the 20 km (one-way) Historic, Harrington’s Track bridle trail and many more. Whichever direction you head out in, you’re guaranteed to discover pristine rivers, tranquil lakes, wonderful wildlife, and unspoilt alpine landscapes.
