Nariel Spring Wildflowers

Nariel Valley

Spring brings a vibrant display of wildflowers to the Upper Murray, with the Nariel Gap area standing out as a prime destination for native wildflower enthusiasts.

After the 2019/2020 bushfires, locals were amazed at the abundance of orchids that flourished in response to the fires.

This picturesque unsealed drive bridges the Nariel and Thowgla Valleys. For those eager to explore the surrounding bushland, there are three designated parking sites from which you can set off on foot into the wilderness. There is no defined walking track, with each site offering a unique opportunity to discover a miniature world full of hidden gems. Be careful where you place your feet to avoid stepping on specimens as you get your eye in.

Wildflowers are influenced by their surrounding habitats and the changing seasons, so there are no defined walking trails. Instead, visitors are encouraged to carefully explore the area and uncover the various specimens.

This grassroots project is supported by Bushfire Recovery Victoria, the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, the Arthur Ryland Institute for Environmental Research, and Zoos Victoria.

Nariel Wildflower Wandering Sites 1 and 2 are located along Nariel Gap, while Site 3 can be found at Bullocky's Campground.
