See & Do
Nature & Culture
Wonderful wildlife, stunning scenery, gourmet stops and quirky histories, Lake Hume is a place where nature, adventure and culture thrive
The landscapes are vast and varied with lakes, rivers and mountain valleys providing infinite potential for outdoor adventure, while bushland and agricultural plains bring an abundance of natural wildlife and fresh produce.
Walk on the Wild Side
Frogs, turtles, fairy-wrens and blue-tongue lizards are notable inhabitants of Lake Hume. Add in 200 species of bird, an angler’s fish-wishlist, and native classics like wallabies, wombats and echidnas, and you’ll find there’s a world of wildlife to seek out and admire.
Old Tallangatta
Be sure to check out Tallangatta, the ‘Town that Moved’. From the notable mid-century architecture of the present-day town, to its original, sub-merged setting, 10 km down the road or rail trail, Tallangatta is a unique place that exists both past and present.
Wildflowers
Bluebells, daisies, orchids and wattle, Lake Hume is home to a huge diversity of wildflowers – and wildlife – especially in spring and summer. You’ll find Mount Granya State Park, Mount Lawson National Park, and the Jarvis Creek Plateau Regional Park filled with vibrant wattle, wandering butterflies, elusive birds and busy bees, who, like most visitors, are thoroughly enjoying their surroundings.
