Wymah Ferry

From the 1860s, the Upper Murray was abuzz with excitement as tin, copper, silver, gold and other precious minerals were discovered in payable lodes along its waterways. Payable gold was found in the Cotton Tree Creek diggings and in 1882, the Granya Gold Mining Company became the first registered mining syndicate at Granya. With its new winding engine ‘The Hero’, the syndicate was better equipped to separate gold from quartz. Other syndicates soon followed.
